VW T6 Buyers Guide

Summary

The T6 is the 6th generation VW Transporter by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and is the current version you’d be buying if walking into a VW dealership today. Launched in September 2015 it is the replacement for the T5 VW Transporter. Criticised by some for not being new enough, the T6 features a completely new front end and in the case of Tailgate models a new rear end also. In addition, the dashboard is a much more modern design and in the VW California Camper features uprated trim and glove boxes making it extremely car like. As with each new generation of VW Transporter the specification levels have also increased and the Highline model now comes with luxuries such as, heated windscreen, DAB touchscreen radio, lane change assist and more. Range wise the Transporter is still offered in the same way; Startline, Trendline, Highline and Sportline. Although there is also now an Edition model that adds more external styling. As per the T5 before it, campervan conversion companies such as Bilbos, Danbury, Leisuredrive and Reimo immediately offered T6 based conversions. Some say the lucrative conversion market is the reason the T6 is so similar to the T5 in terms or the rear of the vehicle as it meant little if no adaptation for conversion companies. As per the T5 before it, there is also a huge array of smaller conversion companies offering conversions on the T6 platform.

Engine / Gearbox

Although offered with 2.0 TSI petrol engine options they are rare and so you are more likely to find a T6 powered by one of the 2.0 TDI diesel engine options. Gearboxes are available in the form of 5/6-speed manuals or 7-speed DSG semi-automatics on the more powerful engines.
