VW T7 Buyers Guide

In production from 2025, what follows is a brief VW T7 buyers guide to the VW T7 Transporter.

The VW T7 Transporter 2025 – Present Day

Launched on the 15th of September 2024 and available to buy from early 2025, the all new T7 Transporter is the current VW Transporter.

For the first time in its 70 year history the VW Transporter will not be built buy VW. Essentially it is Ford Transit with the VW Transporter version having different body and trim panels. This will no doubt divide opinion and may upset from VW purists.

Specification

As The T7 Transporter is the current version and a modern-day van, it is no surprise that technology features strongly. Its digital cockpit has a 12-inch instrument cluster, 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system and DAB+ radio, along with wireless App Connect as standard along with a host of optional extras.

Another significant change is the derivatives available, in that standard equipment levels now come in the form of Commerce and Commerce Plus. Features of the Commerce include LED headlights and rear tail lights, front and rear parking sensors with rear view camera system, manual air conditioning, anti-theft alarm and cruise control. Whilst the Commerce Plus adds 16” alloy wheels, adaptive cruise control, heated front seats, heated windscreen and super-bright LED load-compartment lighting.

Engine / Gearbox

Here lies perhaps the biggest barrier VW has to overcome in terms of VW loyal customers. The new T7 Transporter is to be powered by Ford engines, and it is thought these will be of the wet belt variety. This basically means that the timing or cambelt runs in a pool of oil for cooling and lubrication. These engines have had some bad press, although as we understand it regular oil changes at main dealer with the correct grade of oil should negate any issues.

In terms of engine range, the T7 Transporter will have in time have a large range of options. Turbo diesels will come in the form of 110, 150, and 170 bhp options with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic gearbox. There will also be a plug-in eHybrid option which combines a turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering a total of 230 bhp. And even an all-electric version with drive with power ranging from 136 to 218 bhp.
