Bilbo’s Campervan Conversions
Established in 1977 and still family owned to this day, Bilbo’s are one of the UK’s longest running VW campervan conversion companies. All Bilbo’s conversions are incredibly well built and are designed for users of the outdoors with comfortable, yet very hard wearing interiors. Most Bilbo’s models are available as either a pop-top or hi-top, with the pop-tops featuring their low-lie pop-top roof. This is a side hinging roof allowing for low height when down and a greater head height along the full length of the camper when up.
Bilbo’s have pretty much exclusively produced conversions on the VW Transporter chassis. They source their base vans direct from VW so can special order the specification. This means all from new Bilbo’s conversions will come with a glazed tailgate (with the exception of the Lezan), genuine VW sliding windows and single passenger seat with comfort armrests.
Bilbo’s models
The Bilbo’s model range has been pretty stable over the last few years with the main developments coinciding with the change from the VW T4 to VW T5 / T6 platform. The T4 Celeste became the T5 / T6 Celex and the T4 Nektar became the T5 / T6 Nexa. Both retained the ethos of the previous model but with fresher interiors. There have also been the models of Lezan, Komba, Weekender and Space.

Bilbo’s Celex
The Bilbo’s Celex is arguably their most popular model, with the layout that most people have in their minds eye when picturing a VW campervan. It features lots of practical storage throughout and is the model we have sold most of. Bilbo’s also produce a model called the Komba, which has a similar layout to the Celex but with the major difference being a wider rear bed allowing for three seats in the rear.
Bilbo’s Nexa
The Nexa conversion does things a little differently from the Celex, in that it features a central lounge area and rear galley kitchen with space for a large Potta Potti. This Bilbo’s Nexa layout helps zone the camper so the space feels more defined. In our experience those that have discovered this layout seek them out, particularly in LWB form. The Bilbo’s Nexa is still available as a 4-berth although most tend to be 2-berth.
Bilbo’s Lezan
The Bilbo’s Lezan is the flagship of the Bilbo’s VW campervan conversions range. With a layout similar to that of the Nexa, it takes creature comforts a step further with a full size cassette toilet in the rear washroom and more often than not a hot water system and shower. Available only in LWB factory hi-top format, so with tall single rear doors, the Bilbo’s Lezan is quite a rare model and popular amongst those who know it.
